Celebrating Mothers at Interfaith Housing Coalition

NeighborsGo.com - May 9, 2011 - On the evening of Friday May 6, Sleep Experts employee volunteers honored Mothers at Interfaith Housing Coalition during the third annual Mother's Day dinner and family fun night. Approximately 50 adults and 100 children attended. Each Mother received a special gift of comfort, such as a pillow or blanket. Children participated in games and activities and jumped in the Sleep Experts bouncy house shaped like a bed.

Interfaith Housing Coalition provides transitional housing, programs and services to help Dallas-area families in poverty and homelessness. Through Sleep Experts' Share the Gift of Sleep mattress donation program, Interfaith is able to provide families with beds that they use during their stay at IHC and then take with them to their new homes when they graduate from the program.

When Barbara, a mother of three children ages two, three, and five, enrolled in Interfaith Housing's Home & Hope Residential Program in February of this year, both she and her husband KeJuan had been sleeping on the floor for three years, and none of her children had ever slept in their own beds. Now each of the children sleeps in their own twin bed that they will take with them when they leave the program. When asked about her family's stay at Interfaith Barbara said, "I'm honored to say how much of a blessing it is to have the support of our community. Oftentimes we don't recognize that help is right around the corner until we've gone to the end of the street."

Jay Alexander, program director of IHC's Home and Hope Residential Program said, "God has blessed us with many great partnerships that enable us to help families transition to self-sufficiency and new hope. All of our residents are grateful to Sleep Experts for providing beds to help them get a good night's sleep. And the fact that they can take these beds with them when they graduate has a huge emotional and financial impact as they begin their new lives."
