Christine Cook Named "Woman to Watch" by Dallas Business Journal

Woman to Watch: Christine Cook, President, Sleep Experts

Defining Career Moment: I'm from Louisiana, so in August 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, I wanted to help in any way. Sleep Experts provided beds to families that had been relocated to Dallas and also collected food and clothing. I was so inspired to see the generosity of North Texans and proud to watch the employees in our company come together to help.

Overcoming Challenges: The recent economic crisis has been challenging, but it has provided us with an opportunity to be more disciplined in our business.

Rating the Market: Incredible. Dallas is such a great market for business, with a great network of very accomplished women.

Best Advice: I believe that women should pursue career goals that play into their individual strengths and interests, rather than follow a path that they believe others expect of them. When my husband and I decided to start our own business, I knew I wanted to make commitment to the community a major part of our mission, and the sense of personal satisfaction and reward from helping others is a feeling I wouldn't trade for anything.

Historical Role Model: Harriet Tubman. The Underground Railroad was a significant movement that changed history, and she led the way.
