Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex - November 05, 2008 - Sleep Experts invites the Dallas-Fort Worth community to come out and "Share the Warmth" with families affected by domestic violence, during the company's 5th annual Blanket Drive, benefitting The Family Place. From now through Thanksgiving, Sleep Experts will be accepting donations of new or gently used blankets, as well as, sheets, towels and comforters at all of its 31 locations across the Metroplex.
"By donating new or gently used blankets, healthy families can be a part of the solution to stop family violence by sharing the gift of comfort and warmth with those who are struggling to rebuild their lives," said Christine Cook, president, Sleep Experts. "We hope that "Share the Warmth" will inspire people to get rid of an extra blanket or purchase a new one to help someone in need."
Breaking the Cycle of Family Violence
Family violence is a tragedy that not only affects its victims, but also the innocent children who witness the violence or are victims themselves. Many times these children are forced to flee their homes with little or no source of comfort. Organizations like The Family Place work to break the cycle of violence by focusing on providing comfort, safety, and support to these children and their families.
"During times of economic crisis, the frequency and severity of family violence increases and shelters like The Family Place are filling up faster than ever before," said Paige Flink, executive director, The Family Place. "As we enter the holiday season and stress levels are expected to rise, now is a critical time for the community to come together to help, and "Share the Warmth" is an easy way for people to show that they care, with something as simple as a blanket."
Sharing the Gift of Sleep
"Share the Warmth" is one of several ways in which Sleep Experts supports the community by "sharing the gift of sleep" with those in need. Through its Community Connection Program "Rest Assured," Sleep Experts recycles mattresses provided by customers and donates them to area non-profit organizations that nurture and care for children and families in need. Sleep Experts also utilizes a portion of proceeds from every mattress sale toward helping families in need.
"At Sleep Experts our focus is on family, and that is why we are dedicated to helping out in any way we can to share the comfort of a good night's sleep with families who need it most," added Cook. "With help from the Dallas-Fort Worth community, together we can support The Family Place and other non-profits in their fight against critical problems like family violence."
