SLEEP EXPERTS DONATES $100,000 IN MATTRESSES TO GENESIS WOMEN'S SHELTER

Dallas, Texas - May 12, 2007 - Providing a safe, loving environment for her children is the desire of any mother. But in Texas, every 15 seconds a woman is beaten by her husband or boyfriend. For a battered mother and her children fleeing their home, finding safe shelter that feels like home can be a great challenge.

This Mother's Day, Sleep Experts worked to help these special moms rest easier with the donation of 62 luxury Simmons Beautyrest queen size beds worth more than $100,000 to Genesis Women's Shelter. One of the community housing locations for Genesis Women's Shelter received the first delivery. Community Housing offers transitional housing for up to 18 months, allowing clients to continue counseling and case management services through the Outreach Office, but live closer to work, family or school. Rather than pay rent, clients save 30 percent of their income which is returned to them upon exit from the program. They also receive parenting, financial planning and computer classes. Most importantly, this facility provides the extra time and assistance necessary for our families to regain their confidence and re-establish their own resources.

"When violence occurs in your very own home it is very hard to find comfort, especially when you are afraid to even go to sleep at night," said Jan Langbien, Executive Director of Genesis Women's Shelter. "When families come to Genesis, they find a comfortable home. Often, they get the first full night sleep that they have had in quite some time. That's why we're thrilled to receive the generous donation of these luxury mattresses that can be used in our shelters as well as our community housing."
